Advancing identity infrastructure with an enhanced Terraform provider and expert technical insight

Extending API coverage and delivering independent security and architecture reviews

About FusionAuth

FusionAuth is a developer-first identity platform that enables organisations to own and control authentication and authorisation with enterprise-grade confidence. It delivers complete control, whether deployed in the cloud or on-premises. Its API-first design and flexible SDKs mean that engineering teams can integrate identity as easily as any other core service of their stack.

As user volumes and feature demands grew, FusionAuth recognised the opportunity to strengthen its automation tooling to match the platform’s scalability, flexibility, and developer experience. In search of a partner capable of delivering both technical depth and practical implementation, FusionAuth engaged Adroit Cloud Consulting.

About Adroit Cloud Consulting

Adroit Cloud Consulting brings a genuine engineering mindset to every engagement, not theorists or resellers, but hands-on practitioners. Their expertise lies in designing, building, and embedding secure, scalable cloud and AI systems, delivering results with clarity, reliability, and long-term value. From greenfield development to existing infrastructure, they focus on cost-efficient, resilient platforms that enable teams to ship quickly and confidently. Their approach balances technical insight with real business impact.

The Challenge

FusionAuth’s engineering velocity is high. New API capabilities, advanced identity features, and expanded deployment options arrive at a pace that reflects a platform built by and for developers. With the product evolving so quickly and so cleanly, FusionAuth wanted its Terraform experience to reflect the same first-rate standard that customers see in the core platform.

To achieve this, they sought a partner who could take an engineering deep dive into the provider, understand the full sophistication of the API, and ensure every capability was surfaced accurately, consistently, and intuitively through infrastructure-as-code. This required a detailed API comparison, a technical review of every Terraform resource, and a thoughtful approach to customer requests and community issues.

FusionAuth also asked Adroit to provide independent assessments of related services, delivering three formal reviews for FusionAuth leadership, a strategic roadmap and API gap analysis for Terraform provider planning, a Golang codebase analysis of the Permify-based authorisation service, and a security-focused implementation review of the same service. These evaluations helped FusionAuth validate architectural direction and maintain the strong security posture that defines its platform.

During the engagement, FusionAuth completed the acquisition of Permify, bringing a powerful fine-grained authorisation project into the organisation. While Permify is not yet fully integrated into the FusionAuth platform, FusionAuth is committed to maintaining and investing in the project while evaluating how it best fits into the broader identity roadmap. The architectural and security reviews Adroit delivered for the Permify-based service were particularly valuable at this stage, giving leadership clear, independent insight as they assessed future direction based on customer needs and long-term strategy.

The ask was clear. Build on a platform already known for its quality, bring the automation tooling up to the same high bar, and provide leadership with the evidence, clarity, and confidence to continue scaling a product that is best in class.

The Solution

Adroit delivered exactly that. Starting with a rigorous gap analysis, they mapped each identity feature, API object, and configuration path against the Terraform provider. This provided an actionable blueprint for elevating the provider’s coverage and consistency to match the precision and breadth of FusionAuth’s API.

Adroit then systematically updated the provider. New resources were introduced, parameter sets expanded, and documentation refined. The result was a clean, intuitive IaC surface that mirrored what FusionAuth already offered via its API and made it accessible with a few lines of configuration.

Beyond the provider work, Adroit produced the three detailed technical reviews requested by FusionAuth leadership, the strategic roadmap and API gap analysis for future Terraform enhancements, the Golang codebase review of the Permify-based authorisation service, and the security-focused implementation assessment of that service. Together, these reports provided FusionAuth with independent, evidence-based insight into code quality, architectural direction, and potential risks.

Adroit continues to support maintenance, dependency updates, and customer-facing issues, ensuring the provider evolves in step with FusionAuth’s roadmap and remains secure, reliable, and aligned with the high engineering standards of the core platform.

The Results

With Adroit’s input, FusionAuth now delivers a Terraform provider boasting broad, modern, and dependable API coverage that empowers engineering teams to treat authentication infrastructure as code with the same quality, reliability, and flexibility as any other core service.

This seamless, IaC-ready tooling lowers adoption friction, reduces risk, and makes large-scale user-management pipelines tractable even in high-velocity environments. Developers get a clean, intuitive interface. Operators get consistency, repeatability, and auditability.

The technical reviews from Adroit delivered further long-term value, providing FusionAuth with clear visibility into code quality, architecture, and security posture. With those insights, FusionAuth can steer both its product roadmap and potential integrations with confidence, supported by independent analysis that reinforces its already strong engineering direction.

Ultimately, the partnership blends two strengths, FusionAuth’s platform design and developer-centric identity offering, and Adroit’s engineering discipline, depth, and operational mindset. Together, they deliver identity infrastructure that is scalable, secure, and built to the same high standard that FusionAuth applies across its entire platform.
