We are looking for an exceptional contractor who has done T-SQL-to-BigQuery conversion work before and done it properly. You will be responsible for auditing, reverse-engineering, and rebuilding 157 T-SQL stored procedures (including 18 complex procedural scripts) from Azure Synapse into declarative BigQuery and Dataform pipelines. This is the highest-risk workstream in the engagement. We need someone with the skill and the rigour to get it right.

Legacy data warehouse migrations fail at the transformation layer more often than anywhere else. Procedural T-SQL does not map cleanly to declarative SQL. Bugs get inherited silently. Business logic gets misread. Data drifts and no one can explain why. Your job is to make sure none of that happens here, through thorough auditing, documented logic extraction, and fully validated output before a single model touches production.

• Audit all 157 stored procedures categorised by complexity tier (41 control, 18 complex, 32 mid, 66 simple)
• Reverse-engineer and fully document the business logic of each procedure, including edge cases and undocumented behaviour
• Identify procedural T-SQL constructs with no direct declarative SQL equivalent and propose validated alternatives
• Build all Dataform SQL models with peer review against original Synapse outputs
• Flag and escalate any legacy code defects to the client internal contact rather than inheriting them silently
• Validate each converted model against Azure Synapse during the parallel run, producing per-domain reconciliation evidence
• Deliver a complete conversion log, test evidence pack, and Dataform runbooks as part of the engagement deliverable set

• Deep, production T-SQL experience, including stored procedures, CTEs, cursors, dynamic SQL, and window functions
• Hands-on BigQuery SQL and Dataform experience, including incremental models and assertions
• A structured, methodical approach to logic auditing and conversion documentation
• Proven experience porting procedural SQL logic to declarative models in a migration context
• Ability to communicate data discrepancies clearly to non-technical stakeholders
• Strong data validation and reconciliation skills

• Experience specifically with Azure Synapse Dedicated SQL Pool migrations
• Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification
• Familiarity with dbt or Dataform assertion frameworks for automated testing
• Prior work in a fixed-price, time-boxed delivery environment
