About the Engagement

We're looking for Senior Full-Stack PHP Developers to strengthen our client's Applications team through a busy period of delivery. You'll work across a large customer-facing web platform and its APIs — building new features, integrating third-party services, and surfacing new data and reporting to customers.

The backend is PHP/Symfony on AWS backed by MySQL; the front-end UI is React (TypeScript). This is a true full-stack role — we want people who can pick up anything from the backlog, from legacy PHP portal work through to new React/TypeScript UI pieces.

You'll be embedded directly in the client's team — joining their standups, working in their process and tools, and directed by them day to day. We're looking to bring in 2–3 developers at this level — experienced people who can pick up the codebase and deliver with minimal ramp-up.

What You'll Work On

  • Bullet pointWeb-platform feature development and UX — building and improving customer-facing functionality across a large, established PHP/Symfony application backed by MySQL, with new UI pieces built in React/TypeScript
  • Bullet pointExposing new data and reporting — surfacing data in the portal (new pages, reporting views, embedded content) and via the API layer, off the back of new functional workstreams
  • Bullet pointThird-party service integrations — integrating external providers via their APIs and SDKs, building and maintaining abstraction layers
  • Bullet pointAPI feature work — enhancing and extending the PHP API layer to support new portal features
  • Bullet pointFull-stack delivery — backend feature work in PHP/Symfony and front-end work in React/TypeScript, against production and replica databases

Tech Stack

Bullet pointBackend

  • Bullet pointPHP with Symfony — clean code architecture (API design/structure, not just framework familiarity)
  • Bullet pointDoctrine ORM
  • Bullet pointMySQL (production + read replicas)
  • Bullet pointAWS, served via Apache

Bullet pointFront End

  • Bullet pointReact built in TypeScript — the framework for portal UI (new UI is TypeScript for portability)
  • Bullet pointJavaScript, CSS; some minor/legacy Vue

Bullet pointTesting

  • Bullet pointPHPUnit (unit tests)
  • Bullet pointPlaywright (UI/E2E tests)

Essential Skills

  • Bullet pointStrong commercial PHP experience, ideally with Symfony (or a comparable modern PHP framework), and a solid grasp of clean code architecture for API design
  • Bullet pointSolid SQL — writing and optimising queries against large tables, comfortable with an ORM (Doctrine); MySQL specifically is a plus
  • Bullet pointExperience building and consuming REST APIs, including integrating third-party platforms
  • Bullet pointComfortable working on AWS-hosted applications
  • Bullet pointFront-end competence with TypeScript/JavaScript — enough to work full-stack on web platform features
  • Bullet pointGood engineering discipline — version control, unit testing, code review — and clear written communication for a remote, embedded team
  • Bullet pointSecure-coding awareness — you should write to the standard expected by static analysis and secrets scanning gates in CI/CD pipelines

Desirable / Nice to Have

  • Bullet pointReact experience — strongly desirable; without it, the focus would be on the PHP/Symfony portal, API and legacy work
  • Bullet pointReact Native awareness — some driver-app pieces feed the portal work
  • Bullet pointExposure to telematics, IoT, or high-volume data platforms
  • Bullet pointExperience modernising/re-platforming legacy applications and integrating external SDKs
  • Bullet pointFamiliarity with agentic coding tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude Code) as part of day-to-day development
  • Bullet pointDocker — working familiarity expected of a senior candidate

Ways of Working

  • Bullet pointEmbedded in the client's team: their standups, their process, their tools — not a hand-off/black-box delivery model
  • Bullet pointRemote-friendly, with a guaranteed working-hours overlap with UK hours for standups and collaboration
  • Bullet pointPragmatic and delivery-focused — comfortable working in a large, established codebase and getting features shipped, buddied up with existing team members
